Who is the pupil premium for?

The Pupil Premium is primarily aimed at Reception to Year 11 pupils who are from low income families and are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).

This category now includes any child that has been registered for FSM in the past 6 years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’).

How much is it? Nationally, the total Pupil Premium funding is set to increase in 2014–15 to £2.5 billion. In 2014/15, the Pupil Premium will be allocated as:

  •  £1300 per child eligible for FSM and per child identified as ‘Ever 6 FSM’
  •  £1900 per child who is looked after 
  •     £300 per child of a service family

How are schools expected to use the Pupil Premium?

Schools are expected to use the funding to help close attainment.

Although all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will now automatically receive free school meals, if your child would also be eligible for free meals due to the level of household income please ensure that you apply through this route as without your application, the school will not receive the associated Pupil Premium funding.
