Albert Village Community Primary School Pupils Promote Road Safety in District Council Competition

Albert Village Community Primary School is delighted to have taken part in a road safety competition organised by North West Leicestershire District Council, in partnership with the local police force. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of road safety and encourage motorists to follow speed limits around Albert Village and the surrounding local area.
As part of the competition, pupils were challenged to design road safety signs that promote safer driving and highlight the importance of reducing speed near schools and residential areas. The children responded with creativity and enthusiasm, producing powerful designs with clear messages about keeping pedestrians and cyclists safe.
Winners Celebrated at Special School Assembly
The competition concluded with a special school assembly, where winners were announced in front of the whole school. The event was attended by PCSOs Steve and Emma, Catherine from North West Leicestershire District Council, and Andrew Woodman, who is both the school’s Chair of Governors and a local Councillor.
During the assembly, guests spoke to pupils about the importance of road safety, community responsibility, and working together to protect local residents.
Several pupils were announced as winners, with each child receiving a certificate in recognition of their efforts. Second place winners were awarded Rebound passes, while the two first place winners received incredible prizes in the form of brand-new bicycles, complete with helmets and safety pads.
The winning designs have also been turned into road safety posters, which will be displayed throughout Albert Village and the surrounding area to remind drivers to slow down and drive responsibly.
Supporting Pupil Safety in the Community
To further support child safety, every pupil at the school received high-visibility items, helping to ensure they remain visible when travelling around the village.
Councillor Andrew Woodman said:
“It has been fantastic to see the creativity and commitment shown by the pupils in promoting road safety. Campaigns like this raise awareness among drivers and empower young people to take pride in keeping their community safe. I’m incredibly proud of the children and grateful to the council and police for supporting this important initiative.”
Headteacher Cheryl Lott added:
“Our pupils have worked extremely hard and should be very proud of what they have achieved. Road safety is a vital message for our community, and this competition gave the children a meaningful way to share their voices. We are very thankful to North West Leicestershire District Council and the local police force for their continued support.”
Albert Village Community Primary School would like to congratulate all pupils who took part, celebrate the winners, and thank Safer North West Leicestershire Partnership and the local police force for delivering this valuable road safety campaign and supporting the wider community.
